The Gate She Was Sent Home From

When a child is sent home over fees, the loss is never only the lessons. It is the friends, the routine, the belief that the future is still addressed to them. That is what we are actually paying for when we settle a term.

Today she is back in class. Her mother still trades in the same market. Nothing about their circumstances became easy — one obstacle was simply removed, and a child was allowed to continue.
